Community Shares 30 Years 30 Stories

For 30 years, Community Shares has been a strong supporter of nonprofits focusing on Social Justice, Animal Welfare and the Environment. Over the coming months, we will be sharing 30 stories from our 30 years of community change.

Growing with the Urban Ecology Center

The Urban Ecology Center started as a double-wide trailer sitting outside the baseball field at Milwaukee’s Riverside Park with very little educational resources. Twenty years later, the Urban Ecology Center has expanded into two impressive community centers focused on environmental education.

Listen to pieces from 88Nine RadioMilwaukee, a local radio station dedicated to reaching a new generation of radio with the most entertaining and adventurous selection of music and public affairs programming, to hear Ken Leinbach, the Center’s Executive Director, describe more about the Urban Ecology Center’s start.

The Urban Ecology Center continues to grow. With the help of its partners and donations, The Urban Ecology Center is constructing a Menomonee Valley branch as part of its joint partnership with the Menomonee Valley Partners to revitalize the Menomonee Valley. In fall of 2012, the branch will open, offering services to schools in the neighborhood.
