For 30 years, Community Shares has been a strong supporter of nonprofits focusing on Social Justice, Animal Welfare and the Environment. Over the coming months, we will be sharing 30 stories from our 30 years of community change.
Approximately five to seven million stray animals are placed into animal shelters nationwide every year. Helping the Waukesha area with animal overpopulation is the Humane Animal Welfare Society of Waukesha County (HAWS). In 2009, with the generous support from donors and the community, HAWS was able to complete its facility expansion. Soon after, it was awarded Waukesha County Executive Awards Large Non-Profit of the Year for 2010. Watch a video below detailing the HAWS services.
HAWS has been leading the Waukesha community in animal welfare while offering sanctuary to animals in need since 1969. It provides education and takes in about 6,000 animals a year and welcomes over 31,000 visitors annually.
