Peg Frey, Wisconsin Literacy’s 2010 Tutor of the Year, has a passion for teaching. Her resume includes public school teaching for 28 years and volunteer tutoring for 39 years.
Frey says one of her most memorable experiences as a tutor was when a 57-year-old husband and father showed up at her doorstep to show her his gratitude. Frey had been working with this man for years, teaching him how to read.
“I’m 57 years old, and I can finally read a newspaper!” said the man.
Wisconsin Literacy recognized Frey at its 2010 Celebration of Literacy for the many students she has helped within her 67 years of experience. Read more about Frey’s story.
Wisconsin Literacy, works hard to strengthen Wisconsin's workforce, families and communities through literacy. The organization’s volunteer tutors and staff work to reach this goal by providing literacy instruction each year.
