Community Shares of Greater Milwaukee has been working since 1981 to support and fund local nonprofit organizations working to build social equity and a healthy environment.  Membership in Community Shares enables you to join with many other active organizations in the Community Shares family that are working to build a healthy community that works for all.

Community Shares is building our community by raising funds for member groups through workplace giving campaigns.  We provide our members with exposure to over 100,000 employees in our combined Public Sector campaigns and our rapidly growing Private Sector campaigns throughout Milwaukee, Ozaukee and Waukesha counties.  All of our funds are “unrestricted,” meaning that organizations receiving funds from Community Shares can use the donations for their most pressing needs.  We are able to provide these unrestricted dollars because we are a membership organization that does an annual screening of our members’ financial, governance and organizational policies.  This ensures the donor that their dollars are going to reputable organizations and it also helps the organization improve its operations.

Our workplace-giving campaigns are unique in that they allow donors the choice of designating their dollars directly to any of our member organizations.  We also take the extra step of enabling our member organizations to participate in these campaigns as speakers on behalf of their own organizations.  Further, we encourage our organizations to build on these relationships during the year – a voluntary process that can result in new volunteers, new board/committee members and new financial supporters for your organization.

Other benefits: Our website allows members to post Job Openings, Volunteer Opportunities, News and Events from their organization.  There is also significant information sharing that can lead to better operations for all member organizations.
