What is our value to the Community?

CSGM organizations do essential community work on a grassroots level, working for long-term sustainable change- one person, and one problem, at a time. This creates a ripple effect of success creating success. We have hundreds of success stories in the areas of Social Justice and Environmental Progress!

We enable donors to support the cause that is most meaningful to them.

How is Community Shares unique?

1. We let the Donor (employee) decide which charity organization(s) he or she wants to support. Employees love to have choices- and Community Shares is the one place they can get those choices.

2. We have the most diverse group of charitable organizations to choose from-50 in all.

3. All of Community Shares' Social Justice and Environmental organizations work to create long-term solutions through the participation of those affected. They are not "hand out" agencies. We are the only federation that allows employees to support social justice or environmental organizations.

How are your employees' donations distributed?

We distribute funds directly to the organization you choose.

How can your company benefit?

Research clearly shows that over time, Open Campaigns (choice for the employees) result in all of the following:

         Increased employee morale, retention, attendance and performance

An open campaign places more responsibility in the hands of the employee. Thus, employees recognize that the Company values their interests and charitable choices. Studies show over and over that employees identify "choice in giving" as a hallmark of a preferred employer and an exciting place to work.

How easy is it to process employee donations? 

Very easy! Payroll Deduction is already in place in most companies; this simply adds one more automatic deduction during the year and requires only one payroll change per employee for the entire year.

Payroll Deduction also makes donating painless for the employee because it spreads payments out through the year, a little at a time. Because of this, studies show that employees give five times more via Payroll Deduction than do one-time donors.

e-campaigns are here! This simplifies things even more- allowing the employee to make his or her deduction online without the need for any payroll involvement.

An Employee Match shows the Company's commitment to its employee and improves the performance of the campaign.

How is Community Shares of Greater Milwaukee funded? 

Community Shares is funded in part by individual donors responding to direct mail appeals, as well as special events throughout the year such as House Parties, the annual Rock On Community Shares Concert, and our Annual Commitment to Justice Awards event. CSGM also collects a small assessment and annual member dues that are assessed on a sliding scale from our member organizations and which pays some of the overhead costs associated with operating a federation. CSGM also receives occasional grants from community spirited foundations or individuals. Community Shares works hard to make sure every donated dollar possible is used to fund the operations of our member organizations.
