Grow Your Own Groceries : Basic Gardening for Milwaukeeans!
03/27/2010 - 10:00am
03/27/2010 - 2:30pm

For all of you that enjoy the taste of homegrown food, Grow Your Own Groceries is a backyard gardening course that teaches urban residents how to design, plant, and care for a productive vegetable garden.  By growing food at home, individuals and families save money on groceries, eat healthier, and avoid commercial food safety scares.

The 4-hour course provides a detailed overview of organic gardening practices and prepares participants for the challenges and rewards of starting a home garden.  Topics include: planning and crop rotation, healthy soil and composting, insect and disease control, and much more.  Participants will also gain hands-on experience with starting the first seeds for their 2010 garden! Together we are growing food for our tables and our health!

A limited number of spaces are available, so please register today! Please visit our website at www.milwaukeeurbangardens.org to sign up. The program cost is $20-40 (pay-what-you-can) per participant.  All participants receive the Got Dirt? home gardening publication, handouts, seeds and many helpful resources. Lunch is included in the program.

Saturday, March 27, 2010, from 10:00am-2:30pm at Beulah Brinton Community Center, located at 2555 South Bay Street, Milwaukee WI.
