New member organizations for 2010

Community Shares of Greater Milwaukee is very pleased to announce that we have grown to 52 members with the addition of the following organizations:
- ACTS Community Development Corporation — ACTS’ Housing Program creates and sustains viable owner occupant housing markets within neighborhoods surrounding our partner church offices by increasing home ownership rates.
- Common Ground — An alliance of congregations, schools, unions, small businesses, and neighborhood groups from Milwaukee, Waukesha, Ozaukee, and Washington counties seeking non-partisan power for the common good.
- Growing Power — National nonprofit and land trust supporting people from diverse backgrounds by helping provide equal access to healthy, high quality, safe, and affordable food.
- Milwaukee Achiever Literacy Services — For 26 years, our organization has worked in Milwaukee to assist adult learners to achieve their educational goals, so that they may be empowered to improve their lives through literacy in all its forms.
- Milwaukee Riverkeeper — Advocates compliance with environmental laws, responds to citizen concerns, identifies problems within our geographic area, and provides solutions to address these problems.
- Milwaukee Urban Gardens — A land trust dedicated to protecting and creating community gardens to increase food security, build community, and educate residents.
- Safe & Sound -- Unique to the nation, Safe & Sound works in collaboration with law enforcement, neighborhood organizing and youth development to measurably reduce crime in Milwaukee neighborhoods.
- Wisconsin League of Conservation Voters Institute — Works to connect conservation-minded citizens with the policy making process through education, advocacy, public opinion research, and the implementation of voter participation techniques.
- Zoological Society of Milwaukee County -- Provides exceptional science-based educational programs to children, participates in conservation programs spanning the world, and provides support to the Milwaukee County Zoo.
