The following stories showcase the impact that these organizations have on our community and the lives of those they touch.

James’  Story – Guest House of Milwaukee
In 2001 James Shauntee, like many others in need, came to the Guest House of Milwaukee. He went through treatment, cleaned the building and worked with a case manager. James then stayed on for the resident manager program where he learned how to care for homeless individuals with mental illness. For 2 years he served as the second shift shelter manager, and in 2005 James was promoted to become a case manager. In this role he leverages his unique experience and empathy to very effectively help homeless men improve their overall quality of life.

Pamela’s Story- Repairers of the Breach
The first 50 years of Pamela Moorer’s life were riddled with drug abuse, homelessness and prostitution, but her life changed when a friend told her about Repairers of the Breach. At this grassroots homeless rehabilitation center Pamela was treated like family and after some time was asked to become a motivational speaker for Milwaukee youth. Since then Pamela has given many speeches to high schools, youth organizations and churches. Sharing her story of struggle and eventual triumph, she says, makes her “life worth living.”

Kendrah’s Story - Adoption Resources of Wisconsin
A 3-year-old girl named Kendrah was found in the parking lot of a local Burger King--abused, abandoned by her family and weighing only 21 pounds. The woman who found Kendrah was eventually able to adopt her but was told her daughter would be incapable of learning to read and write. With the help of Adoption Resources of Wisconsin, Kendrah was placed in a special needs school setting. This fall, Kendrah will enter the third grade and will be starting her first year without the need for support services.
